Nika Asgari is currently a First-Year student at the University of Toronto where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree as a 2018 McCall MacBain Loran Scholar. Nika is originally from Vancouver, and it is in Vancouver where she founded an organization within Sir Charles Tupper Secondary school. Through her organization, students were able to volunteer with the local hospital and fundraise in response to international disasters. In 2017, Nika was the winner of the Oddfellows United Nations Speech competition and represented Vancouver in New York City. She is also the winner of the 2018 Don Davies Create Your Canada contest which resulted in her idea to be drafted and presented to Parliament as a Private Member's Bill (Bill C-408). As the daughter of two Iranian-Canadian refugees, Nika is a strong advocate for creating a welcoming Canada for refugees and immigrants. As a global citizen, she also advocates for women's rights and equal access to education.
